Good Bag - BUT - No Shims for Mountain Bike Includ

29 January 2019
Really good looking lightweight bag - easy to maneuver. I would give this bag 5 stars except - I did some research before buying - every video on this bag shows packing a mountain bike - with brackets and 'shims' for through axles - these are NOT included and as far as I can find so far not available in Australia. An extra $10 at Bunnings for a right angled bracket and more bolts was OK - but need a bit of creativity to secure & protect the axles in the frame brackets will be required. So if you have 5mm quick release - no problems, but not many mountain bikes have these and even disk road bikes are moving away from these. On practical use I have a medium 29er mountain bike - fits in firmly on the sides which is good but I felt the need to use a LOT of bubble wrap at the fork and rear end. Bike arrived in good shape both ways on a domestic flight and bag still looks good.

Good bag

7 November 2016
This bag is a great light weight option which gives moderate protection to the bike. Fits my 56cm road bike with lots of spare room for clothes and tools.

Recommeded bike travel bag

3 February 2016
Bought this to go to the Tour Down Under. I chose it because the lower plastic tub offers good protection for the crank, rear derailleur, forks and axle fixings using while being compact for storage with the nylon upper folding into the tub when not in use. It has a couple of issues - the aluminium frame the bike is locked to using skewers is pretty rudimentary and the frame axle locating mechanisms will not stop the bike from being pushed into the bottom of the case (ie onto the crank if you don’t remove it) no matter how tight you do the nylock nuts up. You really need to put foam (not supplied) under the crank for added protection which raises where the bike sits in the bag. Not a big issue but my bike (55cm) has an integrated seatpost which just fit in the bag by removing the seat and ziptying a towel over the post to stop it being punched through the bag zip. The frame can also slide forward/back & side to side a bit as it is not able to be fixed inside the tub. Again more foam (not supplied) is needed to pack it. The handle bars need to be removed and secured (I wrapped mine to the head tube/fork) as the frame twists the forks to a perpendicular position compared with the bike frame. Not a big issue but this requires more dis/assembly than my mate’s Scicon bag. Internally it has no locating Velcro straps or extra padding so I recommend investing in padding and foam - I used high density, non-squeaky foam from a TV box. The front wheels are fixed so it isn’t easy to steer but it is stable. Despite these niggles, it is an excellent travel bag and with some care and extra padding should protect your bike well. It weighed in at 8.3kgs which meant I could get most of my kit and extras into the bag with bike and still come in under the 23kg limit. Recommended.
