A worthy upgrade for a kid's bike

By: on 28 September 2019
These forks aren't up to the standard of a good adult's fork, but for $130 you're not expecting that right? But if you want a bang for back fork that will actually work on your kid's bike this is a great choice. The air sprung adjustability means you'll be able to dial it to your kid's weight (we're experimenting in the 35 - 40 psi range). They're not excessively heavy like some of the lower quality kid's forks, and they actually work on the trail which can't be said for a lot of the junk on the market. OK, some tech points: the forks are wide enough to accommodate wide tyres, really wide tyres. Unfortunately the fork arch isn't high enough to clear tall tyres though. So if you've got a plus bike with tall tyres they won't fit vertically. I had to swap the stock plus tyres on our Trek Roscoe 24 with some DMR Moto Digger 2.35's, which are about as tall a tyre as you can get away with (around 56mm from outer rim edge to top of tallest knob and there's very little clearance left). The full travel isn't quite 63mm either, but honestly, it's still enough for a kid's bike riding off-road. The forks look awesome, they don't have that cheap and nasty vibe, but I'm worried about the steel stanchions rusting, I'll keep em clean & dry and maybe even a little lubed to hopefully prevent this. The bottom out is harsh, there's doesn't appear to be anything to act as bottom out bumper, just a harsh clunk. The lockout seems a bit gimmicky, I guess it might be useful if my son has to do a long road climb, but adults forget to turn lockouts off so how will a kid remember? All in all a very decent purchase for the money. If you want your kid to go downhilling on a dually these probably aren't your bag, go and spend hundreds on something exotic, but if your kid is riding XC style trails for fun, this will multiply their smiles.

Great value and quality.

As a result of actually using his name brand mtb for mtb'ing, the you fella's 24" forks were totally shot. Bought these as a replacement and there's been no stopping him since. Smooth, quiet, efficient and significantly light than the originals. Would definitely recommend for anyone who's child loves hitting the trails, needs something better than the generic rubbish that is frequently sold on a kids bike but cannot justify a set of Fox or RockShocks.
